When your FMCSA record is out of date
Why the register drifts, which errors change a fee, and what correcting our form does and does not do.

I. Why the record drifts
The FMCSA census is updated when a carrier files an MCS-150, which is required every two years rather than whenever something changes. There is also a publication lag between a filing and its appearance in the public data we read. A record that is eighteen months behind your actual operation is entirely normal.
II. Which errors change what you pay
- Power units
- This one sets your fee bracket, so it is the error worth catching. Our form shows the registry’s figure and lets you enter yours; if the two differ we ask why, and the reason is recorded with the filing.
- Physical address
- Decides your base state, which decides who receives the registration fee.
- Legal name and officer
- Cosmetic for pricing, but they appear on what we file, so correct them if they are wrong.
III. What correcting our form does not do
It corrects the filing we make. It does not update your FMCSA record, which only you can do by filing an MCS-150. If your details have genuinely changed, do both.
Ready when you are
We read your company from the public federal register, so the form is mostly filled in before you start.
